Story shared: Grandma's cooking

Grandma loved to cook. I don't remember a time in my childhood when she wasn't cooking a big Sunday dinner. She always cooked cabbage in an old fashioned pressure cooker with the little steam thing on top that would dance around and looked like it would fly off. Her specialties were roast, chicken, tacos, beef stew, spaghetti, etc. Pretty much the staples of every other family's meals, but with her own twist. You always knew when you were eating Grandma's food. She made mac and cheese from scratch, and always made her own spaghetti sauce. I think that is part of why we are such a close family, because we regularly gathered around Grandma's table, and not only ate but talked and laughed. Boy did we laugh. She had such a zest for life and always tried to fill her days with activities and family. We used to kid her and ask if she could pencil us in for a visit. She was still contributing dishes to our functions all the way up til the end of her life, and we recently had a get together, our first one without her. It was very uncomfortable and foreign feeling, because she was such a fixture in our lives. But I will always have many happy memories of Grandma, and the wonderful times we would have at Sunday dinner, and many other days throughout the years.

Grandma, I miss you so much already. You were a big part of my life and the rock that kept this family together. You sacrificed a lot for myself and my brother and sister and your whole family. You kept Poppie going, without even a thought about your own health, and donated your time to your beloved church and community. You were one in a million, and I thank you for everything you ever did for me. I miss your laugh and your jokes. I love you, Grandma. Until I see you again.
