Doug Duehning
Doug Duehning

DA “Doug” Duehning, of Shelter Bay passed away on August 23 surrounded by his loving family. He was 72 years of age. Doug was born and grew up in Spokane, WA. He attended Garden Spring School and graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1964. Doug attended Spokane Community College where he met his future wife, Peggy. They were married in 1967.

Doug transferred to Eastern Washington College and earned his BA. After graduation, Doug accepted a job in the audit and tax departments at the Arthur Andersen Accounting Firm. After a few years, he moved on to work at the Washington Fish & Oyster Company. He stayed with the company even though they acquired many new owners and names. When he retired in 2000 he was the CFO of Ocean Beauty Seafoods.

As a child, Doug had attended First Baptist Church of Spokane. When living in Shoreline, he was quite involved in Shoreline Community Church. At the time of his death, he was a part of Christ the King (CTK) Church in La Conner.

Doug was an avid boater. He belonged to Possession Sound Power Squadron, Puget Sound Yacht Club and Shelter Bay Yacht Club. Many hours were spent on his boat, “Rejoice”.

The group that Captured his heart was the Gideons. Being a man of deep faith, Doug worked tirelessly with them in their work of supplying Bibles and teaching others about the Lord he loved.

Doug was a servant at heart, whether it was delivering food for the food bank, ministering to children in Mexico, or just helping a neighbor in need.

Doug is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy, son Mike Duehning and wife Heidi and daughter Sherrelle Collingridge and husband Keith. Also surviving are grandchildren Emily Schulenburg, Kyra Collingridge and Kaden Collingridge, brother Dennis Duehning and wife Kathe, and sister Carlen Fensler and husband Steven as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his youngest sister, Kay Zollman.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 10 at 3:00 pm at Christ the King Church, 2111 Riverside Dr., Mt. Vernon, WA 98273. In honor of Doug, please wear Hawaiian attire. The family suggests memorials in Doug’s name to Gideon’s International, PO Box 1234, Anacortes, WA 98221
